Although I do not base much of my teaching on the use of textbooks, mainly because I want students to use a variety of up to date sources, I think that is useful for students to have a textbook to refer to, especially for theoretical background information. The book that I most commonly use is David Waugh's New Wider World, not necessarily because it is my favourite, but because is the book that most schools I have worked in have. As well as the New Wider World student book, there is also a coursemate, thinking skills book and foundation edition.
